Leaning Tower Of Pisa, Italy

Italy which is officially known as The Italian Republic is a European country consisting of a peninsula delimited by the Italian Alps and surrounded by several islands. It is also known for its considerable architectural achievements, the construction of arches, domes and similar structures.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa also known as Torre pendente di Pisa or simply the Tower of Pisa is a freestanding bell tower, of the cathedral of the Italian city of Pisa, known worldwide for its nearly four-degree lean, the result of an unstable foundation. The tower is situated behind the Pisa Cathedral and is the third oldest structure in the city's Cathedral Square.

The tower's tilt began during construction in the 12th century, due to soft ground on one side, which was unable to properly support the structures weight. The tilt increased in the decades before the structure was completed in the 14th century. It

gradually increased until the structure was stabilized (and the tilt partially corrected) by efforts in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

The decorative design of columns and arches make it one of the loveliest towers in Italy. Engraved at its entrance, and a spiral staircase curls within it to reach the top.

It's almost miraculous that the tower hasn't tumbled. The building of the leaning Tower of Pisa, and especially its completion, represents the last element in the compliment of the ceremonial complex of monuments that enrich the Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of miracles). This makes the tower a must visit location.
